What Margaret has been doing

Margaret is aware that many people round here are worried about gas and electricity prices as a result of the big increases in world oil prices. Take a look at the factsheets that Margaret has produced to advise on household bills and housing. Margaret is standing up for small businesses in Luton by asking the government to take urgent action to help those suffering during the recent credit crunch. Margaret raised the issues at a special Adjournment Debate in the Commons. Margaret is also supporting government moves to get Judges to recognise the difficulties home owners face in paying their mortgages during the credit crunch. Margaret thinks judges should only sanction repossession orders as a last resort and wants to see new guidance issued to them. In a question to the Prime Minister she raised the case of a Luton family who almost lost their home because of an increase in their mortgage. One of the biggest problems facing Lutonians is the lack of affordable, decent housing. ‘Unless more homes are built, first-time buyers and young families will find it more and more difficult to get a foot on the housing ladder’ says Margaret. That is why is has been one of her top priorities as Luton South’s MP to boost the number of new, afforable homes not just for buyers, but renters too, welcoming the £790 million Government cash injection for building more homes across the region.
